Melasma and Pigmentation treatment with PTF technology

PTF (Photo Therapy Flash) machine has a patented technology upgraded from the IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) offering greater versatility higher accuracy and efficacy compared to old technology models. The large PTF treatment spot 10cm², containing dual parallel Xenon flash lamps offers a quick treatment, consistent flash strength to the entire treatment area, more comfort and safer treatments compared to the old IPL machines where the handpiece contained only one Xenon lamp. Photoaging,freckles, age spots, melasma, hyperpigmentation develop due to a variety of reasons, including years of unprotected exposure to the sun. PTF treatment can effectively remove benign skin pigmentation with just a few treatments.

Treatment Principle:

Pigment (melanin) within the focal area is denser than normal skin, so the problematic area’s heat absorption from the PTF handpiece is higher than normal skin’s. The specially selected light spectrum selectively acts on the focal area eliminating targeted pigment while avoiding harm to normal skin. The best results are seen on more visible pigmentation as dark spots selectively absorb the PTF light. More color ensures better absorption, which breaks up the pigmentation, allowing it to be released from the skin.

What part of the body can be treated?

All body parts can be treated: face, neck, décolleté, arms, back of hands, etc.

How is the treatment carried out?

Firstly, the area is cleansed and disinfected. Cooling gel is used for maximizing comfort for the patient during treatment. The glass applicator on the handpiece is placed in contact with skin surface and the special PTF light is multi-pulsed onto the skin. The applicator is then moved to the neighboring area and the shot is repeated until full coverage of the treatment area iscomplete.

In order to enhance treatment results we use whitening serums and masks.

How long does the treatment take?

The treatment usually takes 10-30 minutes. There is no downtime after the treatment and you can immediately return to your daily activities.

What will I experience after the treatment?

In the days following the treatment the treated spots will become darker and look like a small raised area. It is important that you do not try to pick off the pigmentation, but let it fall off naturally. This will happen after a few days, revealing lighter color normal clear skin. It is essential to protect your skin after the treatment. Always use good sunscreen that minimizes the formation of new pigmentation on the skin.

How many treatments are necessary?

Significant change can be achieved after each treatment. Great results are usually seen in just 3–5 treatments. Individual results may vary.

Does it hurt?

As the light energy is absorbed by the melanin pigment, the discomfort depends upon the concentration of melanin in the epidermis and the lentigines combined. However no anaesthesia is required and most patients describe the sensation acceptable, it feels much like a rubber band snap or pin-prick with heating sensation.

What are the possible side effects?
Because of the high intensity of the light used, everybody in the treatment room MUST wear protective goggles or glasses to avoid possible eye injury. Immediately after treatment, redness or minor burning can occur at the treated area and very rarely small blisters like from excessive sun exposure may appear. On the treated area, temporary whitening or darkening of the skin can occur. If the aftercare instructions are NOT carefully followed, color changes may be permanent. Most people experience no side effects at all, and the described skin reactions usually disappear within hours to few days. During your consultation you will be informed about possible side effect and aftercare regimen and all information what you need to know in order to avoid possible side effects.

What are the contraindications?

Certain skin conditions, health irregularities, and medications can impact whether it is safe for a person to receive a light based PTF pigmentation treatment. This list applies to both PTF and alsoconventional laser treatments.

Try to avoid:

• Sunburn, suntan, spray-tanning within 4 weeks.
• Tattoos or permanent makeup in area to be treated.
• Skin trauma, lesions, sores or open wounds, contagious skin diseases.
• Active Herpes in the area to be treated.
• Breastfeeding and/or pregnancy.
• Fever, high temperature.
• High blood pressure, heart conditions, epilepsy or other seizures potentially caused by flashing light.
• Chemotherapy.
• Diabetes.
• Autoimmune conditions.
• Photo-sensitive topical creams or medication and/or herbs, (Roaccutane, Accutane, Sotret within 6 months) Stop using Retin-A®, Renova® (or other retinoid containing products), exfoliating sponges/scrubs, glycolic, alpha and/or beta hydroxyl acid at least 24 hours before your treatment. These products/medications increase photosensitivity and can increase the likelihood of complications.
• History of keloid or hypertrophic scarring.
• History of moles or skin cancer, melanoma.
• Patient with unrealistic expectations.
• If you are under 18, you can only receive treatments at the Szexepil Szalon if you present written consent from your parent or guardian.

Aftercare instructions:

During your initial consultation you will receive detailed information of aftercare instructions.

• After the treatment the treated area may be red for 1-3 hours and have a mild to moderate sunburned feeling that may persist in the treated areas for the next 2-3 days. The use of cold compresses and aloe vera gel or spray helps to decrease any itching or skin irritation. Avoid picking any scabs!!
• Do not use soaps, cosmetics or irritating creams/ scrubs that might cause allergic reactions to your skin Do not use perfume on the treated area!
• Make sure to protect your skin with a sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every morning before going outdoors for the next 4 weeks to avoid sun induced brown discoloration of the skin!  VERY IMPORTANT!
• Do not suntan or use the tanning bed and do not use self tanning lotions for 1 week AFTER the treatment!
• For a couple of days after treatment, the treated area will be more sensitive, therefore do not take hot baths, massage and avoid the sauna! Avoid rubbing irritation and scratching the skin!
• Until the redness on treated area faded you are not allowed to shave!
• Use cosmetics that match your skin type and rich in active ingredients. Our staff will help you pick the right product.

What kind of cosmetics should I use at home to complement the salon treatment and maintain the result?

At our salon we use Mesoestetic Ultimate W+  line, which is a cosmecutical skin whitening product line enriched with [meso]white complex. Our esthetician will recommend you products that used regularly will maintain tretament result.

Solar radiation, skin aging and genetics are among the main factors influencing the tone and intensity of skin pigmentation, and can lead to unsightly effects.
